Acer griseum
Paperbark Maple
Zone 4–8. A. griseum is always in short supply due to very slow growth rate and unique characteristics; ultimate size is quite variable depending on soil and site conditions, expect 20–30' H but can reach 50', width less than height in an upright-oval form; the oldest specimen in the U.S. was established in about 1910 at Longwood Gardens; exfoliating, beautiful red-brown or cinnamon bark with small trifoliate dark green summer foliage turning bronze or red in fall, typical winged maple seed; grown as specimen and due to mostly trouble-free assets, will make a long term statement in the landscape.
