Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’
Bloodgood Red Japanese Maple
Zone 5–8. Likely the most popular upright, large-leaved, tree form Japanese maple grown in this country; it is known to sunburn some in very hot exposed sites, it generally will maintain its almost black-red color well into late summer, then giving up red to express reddish-green in some sites; success is attributed to the strong growth and upright habit to 15–20' H × 15–20' W; believed to be originally propagated by the Bloodgood Nursery, Long Island, New York, some believe it originated in Europe; no matter who saw it as a great opportunity, they were right.
