Heritage Cully River Birch
Zone 4–9. Up to 40' H × W. This is the closest thing to a white birch that will perform well in the hot summer months; has large, leathery, dark green leaves that do the typical thing of birches by gently swaying in the breeze; young trunks show thin reddish brown to cinnamon brown bark that peels; older trunks are dark reddish brown, deeply furrowed and broken into irregular plate-like scales; grown as a clump-form; note that we use the ‘Heritage Cully’ cultivar name to give credit to Earl Cully who selected this River Birch in the early 1980’s.
