Viburnum ‘Conoy’

(V. x burkwoodii x V. carlcephalum)

Conoy Viburnum

Zone 4–8. The glowing description of this plant could fill a page-it is my most favorite Viburnum, read Dirr if you think I am exaggerating; 5' H × 8' W in 15 years; creamy white, slightly fragrant flowers from pink buds; leaves are 1 1/2 to 2 1/2" long, vibrant, very lustrous, dense, dark green on the surface and pale blue-green underneath, with a significant tint of maroon all winter-it is bullet proof evergreen here; requires almost no pruning once the initial shape is established; stems are brittle and require careful handling-we oversize the ball to protect lower branches; introduced by Dr. Egolf at the USNA.
